Welcome to the 2010-2011 School Year

I want to WELCOME all the new first graders and the parents and guardians to First Grade. I am so excited about this new school year. As you can see from my photo I was so excited and happy on my wedding day, I feel the same way about this new school year.

Let me take some time to tell you about myself. I have been at ASFL since the 1998-1999 school year. I began as a kindergarten teacher. I taught kindergarten for 6 years and then decided to move up to first grade. It was hard leaving kindergarten but I knew I needed a new challenge. I have fallen so in love with teaching first grade. I love teaching reading, phonics, spelling, handwriting, math, science, and social studies. I get just as excited about the learning as the children do. I plan to always do my best to encourage the children to read and to instill a LOVE of reading. I am excited about the new things going on at A.S.F.L this year. We may not have the funds we need but the quality of education will be higher than you expect.

As I mentioned early I recently was married on December 12, 2009. I waited a long time to meet MR. Right for ME. My husband's name is Charles Payne. We are very happy and currently live in the South Huntsville area. I love spending time with family. My family lives within minutes which make it nice! I have 5 nephews and 3 nieces that I absolutely adore and love spending time with. Well, that is enough about me for now.

Stay posted...I will try to continue to keep this blog updated throughout the year with pictures from the classroom. Please remember to fill out of the registration forms. Please let me know if you do not want your child posted on the blog. I will make sure their picture will not appear.

Thanks,

Mrs. Payne

Balloon Rockets in Science

Parents,

We have been studing about air in Science this month. The children have learned that air is matter and takes up space. They should be able to explain how to compress air and after Friday's lesson they should be able to explain how to propel objects by using air.

Last week three middle school students came in and taught an awesome mini-lesson on the American Flag. The children are learning in Social Studies how to be a good citizen. We are discussing ways to show tolerance, respect for others, and the things we love about America.

Important

Due to 60% chance of rain our field trip for September 18th has been cancelled and rescheduled for April 1, 2010 from 8:30 til 11:30.

September 18th is picture day! The children can wear causal attire.

Fire Safety

Last Friday we had a visit from the Fire Department. They brought out fire hats, coloring books and a fire truck. The children got to ask important questions about how to stay safe during a fire and how to prevent one.

We challenged the students to come up with a fire escape plan for their home. Enjoy the pictures I will post more soon.
